Author’s first meeting with Shree Shree MĀ Ānandamoyee: My eyes fell on a bright, luminous, radiant figure, beautiful, ageless, clad in white, with long flowing hair, Her eyes and face lustrous, Her entire form shining with an unearthly glow. Spellbound, I stood there speechless. Without faith in God and practice of righteousness, there is no hope for man. Our Shree Shree MĀ is neither a sadhu nor a saint; She Herself acknowledges that. Nor does She demonstrate supernatural powers to gather people round Her. Yet we have seen time and again such sadhus and saints, in genuine astonishment, seeking refuge at Her feet. Full of amazement, I wonder, “Who are you Mother, veiling yourself fully from us mortals, moving about on this earth overcast with darkness, bringing to us your childlike laughter and simplicity? The world is evil, so it becomes difficult to have faith.” MĀ has said, “Only when there is a sense of ego can one say who one is; there is no ego at all in this Body, so She is whatever you all take Her to be.” What a remarkable, singular identity!
